LAURA nannan adhd coach

Being neurodivergent in a world not designed for us can be – well – it can be challenging! I believe that ADHD coaching can help with that challenge

My approach is non-directive, which means I won’t tell people what to do. You’ve probably had enough of that already.

Instead, we create an environment of useful thought. I’ll listen, and ask questions that encourage reflection to deepen self-awareness.

My experience is that non-directive ADHD coaching can foster self-acceptance and nurture strengths. From that foundation, sustainable change is possible.

Online ADHD Coaching

How Online ADHD Coaching works

Coaching is provided on Zoom. Sessions are 1-to-1, and they last 50 minutes.

You set the agenda. What area in your life do you hope to move forward with? This could range from short-term aims (I want to declutter that drawer) to long-term aspirations (I want to finish my novel).

Through conversation, we explore the topics that you bring. My role as a coach is to ask questions and offer reflections that encourage deep thought, opening up new perspectives and deepening self-awareness.

Through this process, you’ll begin to generate useful ideas for moving forward. Ideas grounded in self-knowledge and aligned with your strengths and values.

If you want, you can check-in between sessions via WhatsApp or email. There is no requirement to do so.

What is non directive ADHD coaching?

Non-directive coaching is a collaborative, client-led approach that supports clients to find their own answers. The coach doesn’t give advice. It’s based on the belief that people are resourceful and capable of figuring out their own solutions, which is empowering and leads to sustainable change.

The coach’s role is to listen, reflect back what they hear, and ask questions that help the client gain clarity and insight. This nurtures self-awareness and self-belief, and leads to change that is authentic for the client.

Non directive ADHD coaching is ADHD informed, understanding that our brains work differently, which effects how we make decisions and move forward.

How is non directive ADHD coaching different to counselling or therapy?

ADHD coaching differs from therapy or counselling in purpose. It’s focused on the present and future, assuming clients are mentally healthy enough to make decisions and take action.

Therapy and counselling, by contrast, often explore past experiences, emotional healing, or mental health challenges.

Do I need a formal diagnosis to work with an ADHD coach?

No, not at all. If you think you have ADHD, I believe you.

If you’re unsure, non directive coaching may still be useful for you depending on what you’re looking for.

I can’t diagnose you, not even unofficially! But if there are challenges in your life that you want to move forward with, and you’d like to explore them in a coaching space, you’re welcome to book a free discovery call to find out if we might be a good fit.

Even if you don’t have ADHD, the non directive coaching style can work well for all types of minds, because it’s client-led and respects how different we all are.

How do I know if ADHD coaching is right for me?

Non-directive ADHD coaching might be right for you if you want a supportive space to explore your own thoughts, free to be your authentic self, with all your strengths and challenges.

But you don’t want to be told what to do.

Throughout my life, I’ve felt pain and frustration at being misunderstood, and shame at not being able to perform as others seem to think I should. Even ADHD specific advice can cause those feelings if it doesn’t work for me. (We aren’t all the same.) Non-directive coaching should be a haven from feeling pressured to be something you’re not.

You’ll only really know whether it’s right for you by trying it out.

What happens during a typical online ADHD coaching session?

In a typical ADHD coaching session, the client brings something they’re working on or something they’d like to achieve. We then explore it together through conversation. My role as a coach is to ask thoughtful questions and offer reflections that encourage careful thinking and deepen self-awareness.

Through this process, the client begins to generate useful ideas for moving forward. Ideas grounded in their own self-knowledge and aligned with their strengths and values.

How many sessions will I need?

This can vary depending on what you want to achieve. As with the whole process, it’s led by you.

For short-term, specific aims (for example, preparing for an interview), maybe one or two sessions could be enough.

For more complex objectives, perhaps you’ll want coaching over several months.

We’ll check-in regularly on how you feel you’re progressing.

What can ADHD coaching help with?

All sorts! Non directive ADHD coaching can help you find self-awareness, skills and strategies to help you move through life with greater ease. It could help with areas as diverse as meal planning, budgeting, cleaning, starting to exercise – I’m sure you can think of others.

Things I’ve explored in coaching include: implementing better sleep hygiene; how to achieve work/life balance but still have enough money; what the hell does self-care look like for me?

(I’m still shying away from addressing the dentist issue. Progress, not perfection, right?)

Coaching can’t treat mental health or medical conditions. It can’t cure ADHD. It can’t provide crisis support.

Is online ADHD coaching confidential?

Generally, I won’t share information about you, including the fact that you’re receiving coaching, with anyone outside of our sessions.

If I take anything from our sessions to supervision, I’ll discuss it in a way that ensures you can’t be identified.

The only circumstance in which I may break confidentiality is if I believe there’s a serious risk of harm to you or to someone else. Wherever possible, I’ll let you know before taking action.
